Bombay Hair – Titanium Flat Iron

A titanium flat iron is the preferred choice for professional stylists because of the many benefits that titanium provides in styling and protecting hair. Titanium heats faster and more evenly than ceramic, so it takes fewer passes along the follicles and the hair won't get fried in the process.

FAQ's

Titanium flat irons need special care in order to preserve the plates. Cleaning your flat iron probably isn't at the top of your to-do list, but you may find that doing so will keep the unit working at peak performance. The way you clean a titanium plate flat iron can extend its life. That's why it's so important that you know how best to accomplish the task.

There are two recommended methods for cleaning. One is better suited for use during routine maintenance, one is better for cleaning a flat iron that is receiving little to no maintenance.

This is a pretty simple option and all you need is a damp towel or washcloth, a heat-resistant surface, and a flat iron cleanser. It's okay if you don't have a professional cleanser, some clean water will do just fine.

Turn off the flat iron and unplug it. You'll want to wait a bit for the plates to cool down but you do not want them to go cold. When the plates are warm to the touch you can get started. You want the plates to be heated so the gunk and buildup on the plates is easier to remove.

Dampen your cloth and wipe each plate down from one end to the other. Once you're done, give it a minute or two, then use the cleanser to remove all of the gunk that's collected on the plates. Wipe each plate down, don't press or scrub too hard or you could damage the surface.

You're done. Let the flat iron dry completely before plugging it back in to heat up again.

For that tough, burnt-on build-up you may need something a little more concentrated than water or even a mild flat iron cleanser. Mixing together a combination of baking soda and white vinegar can give your titanium plates that superior level of clean.

Using ¼ cup of baking soda and adding a little bit of vinegar to it, mix well so that you are left with a viscous, smooth paste. Apply the paste to the titanium plates of your flat iron and let it sit for a minute or two, From there, get an old toothbrush and lightly scrub each plate until all of the build-up is removed.

Don't rinse away the excess baking soda paste. Simply wipe it all away with a clean, dry cloth or paper towel.

The only temperature that really matters for a flat iron is the one that is best for your hair. Titanium plates heat up much quicker and more evenly than ceramic plates. There is also a big difference in the way they each heat the hair. Ceramic flat irons heat the follicle from the inside, titanium flat irons heat the follicle at the surface. The former is often gentler than the latter, so keep that in mind when you are deciding on the proper temperature to achieve the hairstyle you want. Dry or damaged hair may not do well under the intense heat of a titanium flat iron, so you should adjust the settings accordingly.

Using the flat iron to straighten hair will require a different approach based on your choice of ceramic or titanium plates. Ceramic flat irons don't heat up very fast, it's a far more gradual rise in temperature whereas titanium heats up a lot quicker and more evenly across the plate.

The temperature you select should never be too hot to singe or mark the hair. Straightening the hair to the desired results may take longer with a ceramic flat iron than a titanium one which will require the hair to be exposed to extreme heat for far less time. Therefore, you'll need to consider your type of hair and whether or not it can sustain temperatures of up to 350 degrees or higher for any length of time. Some types of hair fare better under ceramic or titanium plates because of the level of heat output that each one offers.

Consider all of these factors when using a titanium flat iron and you'll get fabulous results every time!
